Introduction: Apple Home Pod is a smart speaker by tech giant, “Apple Inc.”. Here smart speakers means that it can be voice controlled to perform different tasks like searching anything online, playing music, taking phone calls etc. using a software called “virtual assistant”, which can understand your voice commands and take actions accordingly. Apple Home Pod has “Siri” virtual assistant whereas Amazon echo uses “Alexa” and Google Home uses “Google assistant” as virtual assistant.
Release: Apple Home Pod (can also be called siri home speaker) was announced on 5th June, 2017 and is going to launch in early 2018. Initially it will be released in Australia, U.K. and U.S. with two colors White and Space Gray.
Hardware: Apple Home Pod contain Apple A8, 64 bit ARM design based SoC (System on Chip), the same one which is used for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus. Apart from A8 chip, it has seven tweeters (speakers to produce high frequency sound) and a four inch woofer (speaker to produce low frequency sound) which is designed by apple.
Features: Apple has done a lot of work on it’s acoustic design for premium user experience. It can scan your room and the adjustment with speakers to produce the best possible sound. It also has 3D mesh surrounding the speaker, which according to the apple is selected for the best sound quality.
Security: Privacy and security is the issue that is connected to almost every electronic device that connects to a network. Your precious data can be stolen by hackers and misused. So, Apple has designed it’s speaker in such a way that it uses encrypted data (coded data, in accordance with a specific algorithm). So, here you get a good security feature from Apple.
Cons: In the end, let’s talk about the cons associated with an Apple Home Pod.
- High Price: $349, not every person can pay this amount easily
- Pairing: Can only be connected with Apple device but not with android devices.
