Introduction– Nest thermostat is the 3rd generation smart thermostat device based on IoT (Internet of Things) technology manufactured by the California, U.S. based tech company called “Nest labs”. Nest labs deals in manufacturing of smart devices for following categories.
- Heat sensing
- Smoke detection
- Security systems etc.
This smart thermostat is programmable. Also has the capability of self programming after few one or two weeks of use which depends upon the habits of the user. All this is possible because of AI (Artificial Intelligence) which makes this device to learn things automatically by collecting data from it’s environment.
Function- It has a capacitive touch screen by which you can change the settings. It can be connected to the wireless network to get the O.S. (Operating Systems) updates and make it controllable by mobile app from anywhere in the world. Nest saves around 10-15% on heating and cooling bills.
It can be connected to Alexa voice devices like Amazon echo series for voice assistance capability.
Security– Since security is one of the most important factor connected with IoT devices, Nest’s latest O.S. update has a feature of 2- factor authentication (for logging into the device, you will need your normal set password along with an OTP generated by 2 factor authenticator app on your smartphone) which makes it almost hack proof.
Conclusion- This device is perfect for those who have tight schedule or who don’t want to change the settings of the heating and cooling systems again and again. In starting, Nest can be expansive for most of the users but it can save electricity bill by automatically control the heating and cooling systems of the home.
